CHAPITRE IV - Artificial embellishments.

Those who are rejected at the same moment by the nature and by the fortune can to enjoy to resort to artificial means such as these:

An ointment makes with the coronaria tabernamontana, the costus speciosus or arabicus and the calaphracta flacourtia. We rub all the body and we make so pleasant to the sight.

If we cross ( spend ? ) a fine powder extracted from plants above in the flame of a lamp fed with some oil of blue vitriol, we obtain a black make-up which puts itself on lashes.

We use ( employ ? ), in the same way as the first ointment above mentioned, oil were extracted from several plants: the herb of pig, the échites putrida; and black make-up pulled ( fired ? ) by the same plants or by their mixture, and the compound ointment also.

We attribute ( award ? ) the same property to a powder formed by some vegetables and what we eat having mixed her ( it ? ) with some honey.

A bone of peacock or hyena gilded ( bronzed ? ) attached to the hand returns a man pleasant to the eyes of the others [35].

The same success if we become attached to the hand a rosary of grains ( beads ? ) of jujubier and shells, enchanted with the way indicated by Atharva-Véda (book ( pound ? ) of the magic incantations) or by a skillful magician (Appendix 2).
