CHAPITRE VI - Quarrels between lovers.

We can consider the quarrels between lovers as a sort of preciousness or means of excitement.

A woman who likes very much a man does not suffer that he speaks in front of her of a rival, nor that, inadvertently, he calls him ( it ? ) of the name of another woman. When it arrives, he ( it ? ) results from it a big quarrel; the woman gets angry, shouts, undoes her hair and drops them in a mess, throws of her bed or her seat, lance far from her its festoons, its ornaments and rolls about to earth ( ground ? ).

The lover tries then hard to calm him ( it ? ) by good words; he raises ( finds ? ) it and replaces her ( it ? ) with precaution on his bed or seat; but she ( it ? ), without answering anything, still gets angry more hardly and pushes away ( repels ? ) him ( it ? ); the bootstrap by hair, her ( it ? ) lowers him ( her ? ) the head, then she ( it ? ) gives him ( her ? ) kicks in legs, in breast and in back; she ( it ? ) goes to the door of the room ( chamber ? ) as to go out, but she ( it ? ) does not go out; she ( it ? ) stops ( arrests ? ) near the door and the bottom in tears.

At the end of some moments, when she judges that her lover made by his words and his acts all that he could to become reconciled, she has to show himself satisfied by squeezing ( tightening ? ) him ( it ? ) in the arms and by showing him ( her ? ) her desire to unite with him to forget everything; then the reconciliation is completed.

When the woman has her separate house and when both lovers left in quarrel, the woman means to her lover that everything is broken between them; then this one sends successively towards her, to calm him ( it ? ): Pitkamarda, Vita and Vidashaka.

She ( It ? ) goes ( surrenders ? ) finally, she returns to her lover and crosses ( spends ? ) the night with him.

Here are two aphorisms about the preciousness which accompany the union.

When the connection is begun, the passion determines only all the acts of both lovers.

However the man has to study himself, to recognize the way of proceeding who gives him ( her ? ) most resources in the connection.

He also has to study the woman with whom he has reports ( connections ? ) followed to behave with her in the way who ( which ? ) gets him ( her ? ) most pleasure.

The woman also has to make on herself and on her lover the same observations, to be able to assist her good will with the connection.

The own of the man is the harshness and the rashness, that of the woman, the delicacy, the tenderness, the impressionability, the disgust for the naturally disagreeable things.

The excitement and the custom can produce opposite effects in the nature of every sex; but they are only temporary, and this one always returns.
