CHAPITRE III - Of the ownership of sixty four talents or arts of sensual delight taught by Kama Soutra.
The man has to study Kama Soutra after Dharma and Artha, and the girl has to herself learn the practices; at first before his ( her;its ? ) marriage, and, then, later, with the permission of her husband [ 12 ].
[ Note 12: in the Moslem countries, the women are educated to incite the senses ( directions ? ) by the dance and the mime, etc.]
We object to it that the women, not having to study the sciences, do not either have to study Kama Soutra.
In it, Vatsyayana answers: that the women can, without studying the treaty and its explanations, knowing the practice, because it is pulled ( fired ? ) by Kama-Schastra (or the Rules of the Amur) which we learn experimentally, either by itself, or by close friends. And so Kama-Schastra is familiar to a certain number of women, such as the girls of the princes and their Ministers.
It is thus advisable that yellow one girl is introduced to the principles of Kama Soutra by a married woman, for example her foster sister, either a friend of the house tried ( felt ? ) in every respect, where an aunt, an old handmaid, or a beggar who lived formerly in the family, or a sister (see Appendix, N 1 and 2).
These practices of Kama-Soutra are borrowed ( taken ? ) from the part ( party ? ) of Kama-Shastra which has report in the sexual intercourse, and which Babhravia also entitles sixty four arts, as sixty four liberal arts the naming of which was given above.
To arrive at this number of (sixty four), we divided what has report in the link ( coming together ? ) of the sexes, that is Kama-Shastra, in eight parts ( parties ? ) or subjects; and in every part ( party ? ) we made eight subdivisions main clauses. He ( it ? ) was the same in Kama-Soutra [ 13 ].
[ Note 13: obviously, for the divisions, the figure of sixty four is dear to the writers of time; according to the former ( ancient ? ) commentators, he ( it ? ) is dedicated by Védas.]
The man to whom are familiar (sixty four) means of pleasure indicated by Babhravya, reached ( affected ? ) the purpose of its desire, and possesses the most enviable woman.
The one who indeed speaks on the other subjects, but does not know (sixty four) sensual delights of Kama-Soutra, is not listened to with favour in scholars' meeting.
The one who, on the contrary, possesses them all, although having no other science, takes the head of the conversation in all the companies ( societies ? ) of men ( people ? ) and women.
Because of their prestige and of their charm, Acharyas, or the most advisable, former ( ancient ? ) authors, qualifies of _chers in femmes_ sixty four sensual talents.
The man, indeed, who is exercised there, gains ( wins ? ) the heart of his own wife and that of the women of the other men ( people ? ) and the courtesans.
